Ginger Mats has been nominated for the Derbyshire Times Business Awards 2013 for Small Business of the Year, Nick Coward has also been nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year. The winners will be announced at the Award Dinner which is being held at Chesterfield Football Club and hosted by BBC’s Look North presenter Clare Frisby.
To give an idea of just why Ginger Mats has been nomiated for this award, this was said by one of the nominees about Ginger Mats.
Ginger Mats Ltd was launched just 3 years ago with a minimal investment and operated on the basis that it needed to be a self funding venture. So from a mere £3k investment Ginger Mats was launched to the market of Mat rental servicing and direct purchase.
Having spotted a niche in the independent mat rental operators in the East Midlands and Derbyshire in particular, Ginger Mats was born to bring customers a choice of impeccable service for their mat servicing. Whilst a couple of large companies service nationally, there have often been negativity around the level and style of service that they offer their clients. Ginger Mats has strong links with other independent regional mat servicing operators throughout other parts of the country and Ginger Mats has sort to improve the national coverage by bringing an independent options to Derbyshire.
This service sector of the company is backed up with the direct purchase section of the business, which whilst targeting national and international markets the key focus is to bring high service levels at competitive prices to the local establishments, and build on a client list that include Fritchley Primary School, Thorntons and Rab.
From a rather humble initial investment Ginger Mats has built on this to having a turnover last financial year of approximately
£200k. This has grown year on year over these last 3 years, and are forecasting another great year. Starting a business at any time is challenging, without doing it through the current national economical climate.
